Dark Fantasy Visual Novel STARCULT Unveiled

Indie developer Not A Cat Studios has announced STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age, a dark fantasy visual novel with romance set in a mysterious world on the brink of catastrophe. The game follows the story of Silviya, a lady from the noble House Nebula who married its young head, Hans, as part of a deal.

The game begins with Hans‘ murder by an unknown monster shortly after the wedding party, and Silviya calls for a detective to investigate the crime. The real monster is still unknown.

The central theme of STARCULT. Night: Twisted Age is how human emotions influence relationships—how people express them, how they interpret them, and how they use them. To present this theme, the game features an Emotion Palette, a unique tool for interacting with the game world.

According to Liliia Sitailo, the artist and CEO of Not A Cat Studios, the Emotion Palette allows players to read the true emotions and intentions of others and shape how interactions unfold. It offers a wide range of choices that influence relationships, outcomes, and the direction of the story.

This system adds depth to the game. The Emotion Frenzy system is also featured, where choosing not to spend emotion leads to Silviya going insane, unlocking an alternative story route.

Players must manage Silviya‘s emotions to progress through the story. They can make meaningful choices that lead to a variety of unique endings.

These endings include Detective, Hedonist, Mystic, Nihilist, Ascended, and secret paths. They can also choose a character to form a relationship with, ranging from romantic to toxic.

The Emotion Palette allows players to read the true emotions and intentions of their friends and enemies, and influence how they respond. Players can create their own cult and choose its purpose.

This adds a layer of depth to the game’s story and gameplay. As Silviya handles the mysterious world, she must use the Emotion Palette to uncover the truth behind her husband’s murder.

The game’s story is full of twists and turns. The player’s choices will ultimately determine the outcome.
